4th of July Run, 2008

Our Fourth of July tour was a great trip. As usual, Dave and Eva Sampson mapped out a great route with some interesting stops along the way and we had lunch at a colorful little restaurant in Dundee. We started our tour in Lakeland at Checkers with seven Model As plus a modern car, picked up another one along the way and met three others in Winter Haven's Albertsons. (Am I the only one that thinks it's ironic that we always select our meeting places at eating facilities?) Anyway, our caravan consisted of eleven Model As, one modern car, twenty-three people, one dog (Banjo) one Raggedy Ann and her baby and an elderly grandmother type who looked well preserved and sat in the Sampson's rumble seat for the trip. Neither of these participated in any activities, just went along for the ride and, of course, didn't have to be fed. We really enjoyed the sights of the back roads and saw a lot of beautiful homes, citrus groves, oak trees, pine trees, palmettos, cow head skulls, lots and lots of lakes, the usual cows and horses, bee hives and the Historic Dundee Depot. We had stops at the home of John Hooper to see his really nice collection of old cars. We also stopped at the FFA Leadership Training Center situated on Lake Pierce. This was a beautiful campground and Lodge, complete with swimming pool, volleyball courts and picnic areas. It was really nice. Dave and Eva did such a good job with this tour and we really appreciate all the time they took to map it out and plan our day. Thanks Dave and Eva for a job well done!!
